Design for concrete rustication at piers and ends of bridge. Contracted by Cannon TranSystems.
The area surrounding this bridge is being reestablished to its original willow-cottonwood riparian ecosystem. The design for the concrete symbolizes the integration of the highway system and this ecosystem. This is depicted as a stylized cottonwood leaf, the veins representing the bridge and highways. The relief design will appear on both sides of each of 16 piers, and on the concrete panels at the bridge approaches. Relief designs will also appear on the tops of pier columns and on the concrete barriers.
Artist design work is completed; bridge construction scheduled to begin 2006.
