Maryland Avenue Bicycle Bridge, Maryland Avenue and I-17, Phoenix, Arizona. Commissioned by the City of Phoenix through the Phoenix Office of Art and Culture.

Judy Bales collaborated with engineer Jerry Cannon of Cannon TranSystems, Tucson, Arizona for the design of bridge superstructure, ramps, and landscaping. Installation was completed in 2005.

Closeups of 5 of 8 total relief designs.

The relief designs found in the concrete walls supporting the bridge ramps are the result of collaboration between bridge artist Judy Bales and students at nearby Ocotillo Elementary and Maryland Elementary Schools. The relief forms, designed by Judy Bales, were inspired by art works created by students in grades two through four during an artist residency.
